Mr, Loren Young, led track star, spoke on he Lortance of sports m the Sent world. Mr. Young was ^candidate for the 1948 Olym pics in the track and field ev ents. He still participates m cross country meets. Mr Young spoke on the im portance of spirit and drive m a sport. He emphasized the feeling obtained through pain, towards victory. Mr. Young said that the most vital ingredi ent necessary in achievements in sports is endurance. To set the atmosphere,_ the chapel services were held in the gj-mnasium. Thus, school clothes were acceptabl#. The reactions of most of the students were extremely good. He appeared to be one of ^ the most enthusiastically received speakers we have had. Mr. Young held the attention of the students because he spoke of things that were closely re lated to the student body. Mr. Young is a graduate of Diilte University and has spok en to audiences in Europe and the Scandinavian countries. He is a representative of the Fellowship of Christian Ath letes and holds an executive po sition in the nationwide organ ization. :»»»««• * new and old members of the Business Club hold their first get-together in the Building. Mr. Alderman gave him Brevard College is planning a festival of contemporary mu sic for October 8-15. All musi cal divisions will be involved in the production. Beginning Sunday, at 11:00 A. M., the col lege will present two contem- pory anthems at the regular Sunday service of the Brevard Methodist Church. Then on Sun day afternoon, the choir will combine with the Glee Club, the Brass Ensemble, and the Meth odist Church Chancel Choir to present a special program of modern music. On Wednesday, a concert fea turing students from the mu sic department will be given in the Dunham Fine Arts Center at 4:00 P. M. At chapel service that night, Rev. James S. Bar rett, Dean of the college at Spartanburg Junior College, will bring the evening message. Upon his arrival at Savannah, Mr Alderman engaged in mili tary experiences as part of the 165th Air Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard. Mr. S is an alumnus of the first graduating class of Br^iard College in 1936. Sherry is enrolled as a freshman for the fall semester. The Business Club had its first meeting for new members on Thursday, September 21. The meeting was held at 6:30, in the reception room of Beam Ad ministration Building. The club, sponsored by Mrs. Grace Mun- ro, is open to all students tak ing a business course or ma joring in business. Thursday’s meeting was open ed by the club president, Becky Miller, and a new vice-president, Linda Offutt was elected. This was followed by a panel dis cussion of summer jobs. Par ticipating in this discussion were Jeannie Selleck, Carol Ma ther, Deb Peterson, Anne Fish er, Linda Ouffutt and Patsy Knox. Jeannie Selleck acted as moderator. This panel answered questions about getting jobs, salaries, bosses, and embarras sing situations on the job. Following the meet;ing, the group enjoyed a social hour with refreshments. The Business Club holds meet ings every month. Guest ^eak- er.s are planned for each meet ing to speak on different as pects of careers in business. President Becky Miller was pleased with large turn out at the Thursday meeting and hopes to make the Brevard College Business Club the nwst success ful club on campus this year. Chaplain Roy Is Speaker Last week, the Board of Edu cation, Western North Carolina Conference, sponsored a lead ership training program for the local Methodist Churches of Forest City. The program, con ducted for adult leaders and teachers, had as it speaker Chaplain C. Edward Roy of Bre. vard College. Teaching five, nightly, two-hour sessions. Chap lain Roy dealt with a survey of the New Testament. This week, beginning Sun day night in the Brevard Meth odist Church, the Chaplain talked on “How to Read and Study the Bible.” The course continued for five days end ing Thursday. Chaplain Roy teaches in various training schools once a semester. From July 20 to August of this year, Chaplain Roy was a members of an archaeological expedition to Israel. Possessing military passes, he and his com panions were allowed to travel across the entire nation, includ ing the Holy City and West Bank of the Jordan River. He has consented to write several articles for the CLARION con cerning his enlightening visit. Whenever I feel like exer cises, I lie down until the feel ing passes.
